Undeniable Opportunity for Optimum Health
Today, more than ever, people are realizing that retirement isnot a melancholy transition from active and vital to useless andbored. Instead, it is an exciting new page to be turned.
With fewer time restraints and without many of the socialprecepts that hold us back in our younger years, we canrealistically look forward to reinventing ourselves.
We are able to focus, often for the first time in years, ontaking great care of ourselves. The cumulative life experiencesof 50 plus years can give an invaluable advantage when it comesto incorporating wellness into our lives.
Think back to your approach to such endeavors in your twentiesor thirties. There was always something else to do and so manypriorities jockeying for your time. Many younger people attemptto take on “wellness” as a foe to be tackled or a system to becheated with vitamins or expensive supplements.
Even the most health-conscious may find themselves barelyfinding time to jump on a treadmill between endless work, schoolor family obligations. In the midst of this chaos, realizingthat total wellness is as much about the mind and soul as it isabout the body, seems nearly impossible.
While the world does not come to a stand-still at retirement, there is an undeniable opportunity to garner a betterunderstanding of our own bodies, minds and souls. Once wevebeen around the block a couple of times we dont take ourselvesso seriously and arent as afraid to try new things. Many of theactivities we have always wanted to try such as cycling orkayaking can become excellent ways to exercise and socializewith active friends.
The self assurance which comes with experience can makevariations on traditional exercise,
such as water aerobics oryoga for flexibility, increasingly attractive options. There areno parameters on what we can do to keep our selves fit long intoour golden years. Retirement is an ideal and exciting time tomake the mind-body-soul wellness connection.
Its not about pretending youre twenty or squeezing yourselfinto some one elses idea of health or fitness. Nor is it aboutspending a fortune for the latest and greatest machine orworkout gear.
Money does not need to dictate the level of health or fitness wereach in retirement. Its about thinking outside the box, tryingnew things and loving life.
Take some time to think about your routine and ask yourself,”When did I last try something new?” The timing is perfect andthe prospect of years of rich, healthy living lay ahead. With alittle research and a fresh perspective your retirement couldbecome the best years of your life.
