As I look through my various forum links and review some of
my company email, I keep coming across questions relating to
generating inbound links to increase web site ranking. No
matter who you are, if you have a web site online you are
always looking for ways to improve your link popularity.
While most SEO practitioners will tell you that getting
other related, non-competing, websites to link to you should
be high on your priority list if you want better PR from
Google or better rankings, most web site designers miss the
most obvious way to get these valuable one way inbound
links. There is a way to do that plus generate additional
content for your web site at the same time. You can get
those quality inbound links while expanding your content
which will bring the search engine spiders to your web site
more often. By following my suggestions, you will be able to
kill two birds with one stone, and make your visitors happy
while increasing your rankings and making the spiders happy
all at once.

Everyone is an expert at something.

It’s true, everyone has many years of experience at
something. Maybe you have been in a job for the past 20
years and know just about every aspect of it, or maybe
you’ve been making paper airplanes as a hobby for just as
much time. Either way, you have 20 years of knowledge about
something that others could be looking for information to
read on those topics. Maybe you have already built a web
site taking advantage of that knowledge and are looking to
use it as a means to make a living, or maybe it’s about a
hobby and you want to make a living with that. Either way,
each of us has valuable knowledge that other people might
want. Why not take some time, sit down and think about your
business experience or hobby, and then write some “How To”
articles about it? If you have a web site that already uses
that hobby, or work experience, then it is a good way to add
content to your web site, and it’s also a good way to help
you get those inbound links you need to increase your
rankings.

Using the Knowledge to Gain Link Popularity through
Article Writing.

Let’s say you have 20 years of experience with a company
where the only thing you did was to conduct interviews to
hire new employees. Let’s further say you were so good at
this that it was the only thing your company wanted you to
do. Because your results were so good, it’s the only thing
you did do. Maybe your prospects always worked out and were
some of the hardest and most competent workers your company
ever hired. You could write some articles on how to
interview job candidates to get the best employees, or maybe
write articles telling job seekers what companies are
looking for in their potential employees. If you have a web
site for job seekers, or a web site for learning how to
interview employees, you could then use the articles for
additional web site content. It’s already a known and proven
fact that the search engine spiders can be conditioned to
visit your site more often through your patterns of adding
content. The more often a site updates, the more often the
spiders come to visit. The more often they visit, the better
chances that your web site will begin to jump in rankings
because it is viewed as a fresh content site that updates
frequently and would be more valuable to visitors.

Some might think there are just some topics so vague or
uninteresting that it wouldn’t be worth writing anything in
that topic area, but the professionals know there are
readers for almost any topic area, and no one topic is to be
avoided because of poor readership. It all comes down to
your writing style, ease of reading, and your credibility.
If you can write gripping content that pulls your readers in
and informs them, then it doesn’t matter what you write
about. In the end, the reader will be looking for you and
not your article. This is not something that happens over
night. It takes a lot of writing and a lot of time to hone
your skills to that point. It takes writing daily and
forcing oneself to try different topics. It’s good to start
out with what you like, but to become a professional and
have flexibility, you have to write about other things too.
Not only will this experience help you become a more
professional writer, it will also help to develop your
communication skills in the written format. As you continue
to use better forms of writing and grammar, you will begin
to write content pages for your site that rank better with
the search engines. It’s a win-win situation all the way
around.

Articles to Increase One-way Inbound Links and Web Site
Ranking.

Speaking of those rankings, that reminds me of those one-way
links I spoke about earlier. After you write your article,
you can submit it to other places online which will post it
to their web site, offer it to other web sites as free
content, or both. Most of these places will allow you to
submit your own information for an “Author’s Box” or
“Author’s Bio” area which they publish at the bottom of each
article. These are things like information about you, your
web site, and LINKS you can add back to your site. There you
go, instant high quality in-bound links without the need to
add the other web site’s link to yours, no begging, no
paying extortion amounts of fees for an ad, just good old
fashioned content to promote your own abilities and web
site. It’s the easiest way to get a one-way in-bound link to
your site IF you can develop your writing skills and your
content viewed as valuable to another web site. If you write
garbage, your information isn’t credible and is full of
factual holes, or your writing puts people to sleep, then
chances are that your articles aren’t going to do anything
more than waste your time. That’s why it’s critically
important to get into the habit of writing often and
learning the flow of your chosen language.

You see, the more you write, the more you train your ear to
listen to the written words, and the more you learn what
“sounds” right and what doesn’t quite seem to make sense. As
I write an article, I am talking within my mind while I
write. Yes, maybe I am a bit strange, but it works for me. I
add my intonations and elevate my voice for emphasis, and I
try to find ways to convey that in my writing. I’m no

“expert”, but this is what works for me, and I have a decent
amount of articles published, which means I must be doing
something right. WebProWorld and WebProNews seem to like me,
or at least my writing style or the topics I cover. Maybe
it’s just my sincerity LOL. Hey, I do my best. I try to
offer the facts and ensure that I do my research before I
write any article outside my field of knowledge. Character
helps to build a writer, and a healthy dose of commitment to
the reader doesn’t hurt either, but you have to find ways to
build credibility and trust. Without those two things,
nobody is going to read what you write, and if they do, they
aren’t going to be likely to click on links back to your
site. You have to get their attention and compel them to
want more of your writing. That’s what will make your
one-way inbound links even more valuable.

The Most MISSED Secret to Link Popularity through
Writing Articles.

OK, so now you have the knowledge to write articles and
submit them as a means to gain valuable one-way links to
your web site, what are you going to do with it? Are you
going to sabotage your own web site by failing to pay
attention to the link you formulate in the articles
submitted? The more articles I read, I tend to find a common
error repeated by authors all over the internet. Now
granted, these are writers, not SEO specialists, but this is
just an example where it pays to round out your knowledge in
many areas of web site promotion, ranking, and design. The
BIGGEST mistake I see authors make when attempting to gain
inbound links is the keywords they FAIL to use within those
links. You see, so many writers worry about branding their
name. That works just fine for writers building portfolios
for selling their copy writing abilities where name
recognition becomes the search term a searcher looks for,
but if you aren’t a writer and are just using your knowledge
to gain inbound links, then you need to use your keywords in
those links back to your web site. It’s so simple that most
times it’s overlooked. Many will also use a company name as
the link back to their web site. Many of my articles have
ended up that way because I overlooked the obvious too.
Nevertheless, by following this method, it is a sure way to
increase your company name, or your name, but does NOTHING
to increase the link popularity for the keywords applying to
your site.

Take for instance Sanders Consultation Group Plus. That’s my
company’s name. We provide web site design services, image
and graphical art services, business consultation services,
SEO services, and just about anything else to get your web
site promoted, up, and running. I tend to take a
page-by-page view of our site and link popularity. What I
mean by that is I take various areas, choose specific
keywords, and search terms I want our site to gain in rank
popularity. I have recently done some page optimizing for
our web site design area; incidentally, web site design has
been the most searched term for web site design services. It
corresponds to one of the services we offer, and it’s the
most popular search-term people use when searching for that
type of service. Let’s say I write an article talking about
web site design. The next article I write on web site design
will include the company name, Sanders Consultation Group
Plus, but it will also include the term “web site design”
linked to the page we have recently optimized for our web
site design services. As I already said earlier, this is
such a simple concept that most people often overlook, and
it can be a detriment to your link popularity goals. And as
we optimize each area of our site, I will continue to write
articles based on the area keywords and phrases, and will
then place links in my Author’s Box to link back to those
optimized pages.

It’s a reported fact that one-way in-bound links are worth
more than reciprocal links. However, for many web site
designers and webmasters, the ways to gain them has been
somewhat elusive. Many fear that imparting their knowledge
will give competitors an edge over the writer’s own
business. What most fails to consider is the number of
people that start out as the “do it yourselfer” and then
realize there is more work than they intended to do. When
they find your articles, you become a source for them to get
their work done without their need to invest large amounts
of time on the project. This is where the benefits of
article writing will pay off, especially if you gain
credibility and trust through your readers. Even if a
competitor does notice one of your articles, sometimes they
can be so impressed and overwhelmed that they’ll write
things about you, include links to you, and you still come
out on top. I’ve seen it happen before. Someone reads
something so profound that it changes his or her life. They
tend to tell others about the change and how the change
occurred.

Articles are a valuable way to get recognition, gain
reputation and credibility while increasing your link
popularity. Done wrongly, and it will do nothing but
increase your reputation and credibility. Done correctly,
and it can raise your ranking popularity and bring you added
customers on top of the other benefits. Take the time to
learn how to write effectively. Write daily and learn the
flow of your chosen language. Write truthfully and credibly.
Make sure to give provable facts while keeping the hype to a
minimum. Use keywords in your Author Boxes and find highly
trafficked sites to submit to. Learn to write in such a way
that engages your readers’ minds and makes them want to read
more of your writing. If you can do all this, not only will
you become a trusted expert, but you will also gain
increased traffic to your web site and leverage your web
site income goals through increased link popularity and
higher search engine rankings. At the least, it will give
you plenty of content to update your web site and increase
search engine spidering.

One of the most effective (and free!) ways to get noticed on the web is to write articles. Even if you have no writing experience, it is easier than you may think, even fun. You can write an article on just about anything you want and choose how you want to publish it.

The best way to start is to write about a subject you understand thoroughly, such as the subject of your ezine if you have one.

Use a search engine to research what you want to write about, and browse some online discussion forums which relate to your subject to gain additional knowledge.

There are article-writing ebooks and other literature available on the web that can provide you with useful advice if you are intimidated to write your first article. Just do some web searches to see what you can find. Some of the literature is free, some isnt.

As you conduct your research, begin writing a rough draft immediately while ideas are still fresh in your mind. You can revise, edit and rearrange later. Your article doesn’t have to be perfect, as long as it is presentable and easily readable.

Keep your lines formatted to about 60 characters. The ‘Lucida Console’ font uses the same amount of space for each character, so you could use it then set your margins accordingly in your word processor program.

I use Notepad which uses Lucida Console by default. I turn off word-wrap and set the window size to where I want it and hit enter as my text fills a line. You may come up with a method that works better for you.

When your article is finished, you’ll need to add what is called a “resource box” at the end. This is where you place a few lines which include your name, as well as anything you’d like to offer your readers.

You should make your resource box stand out by placing a line of asterisks or hyphens above and below it, for example:

How to use articles to establish credibility, build visibility, and get your name out there!

Writing articles can be incredibly valuable to your business.
Articles help establish your expertise and give you credibility. A bunch of well edited articles can be compiled into a product for sale. Articles can get your name in front of your target market repeatedly.
In this article, I’ll review what you need to do to get your articles seen by as many people as possible.
1) Length and outline-Ideally, your article should be from 500-1000 words. Article submission services prefer this length, and your reader will as well. Use an outline at first to make it simpler. I discussed some popular outlines in the last issue of Service Business Strategies. An easy, clear outline starts with an introduction, followed by 3-5 key points, and concludes with a recap of your main points.
2) Resource box-This is your chance at promoting your business. A resource box appears at the end of your article, and is about 4-5 lines about what you offer your clients.
Although articles are ideal vehicles for building your list, you might also want to sell a product or have your reader call you for more information. Get clear on what you want this article to do for you before writing your resource box.
3) Where to submit and how-You can distribute your article yourself or through a directory service. In general I recommend using the service, because self-distribution is labor intensive.
However, if you have fewer than 50 people on your list, you can easily distribute it yourself through your current email program.
If you have a much larger list, consider using an email publishing service. These services charge monthly, and range from free to $100 or so, depending on the options. Great services that I’ve used include ezinedirector.com (free) and Aweber.com (many more options).
That takes care of mailing to your own list. But you can also

mass distribute your information to thousands of people by using an article distribution service. Again, the options are plentiful, but it’s good to be aware of what is available.
Article distribution services send your article to multiple directories, which are distributed to thousands of readers who have indicated an interest in your topic. Because your article has your contact information at the end, you will quickly gain mass exposure.
Submission services can be expensive, depending on the number of directories to which they send your article, and other very mysterious factors. I use and recommend SubmitYourArticle.com, which currently charges $37 monthly to distribute to about 40 or so directories.
CONCLUSION Once you’ve written your article, presumably you’d like it to be read. Your first course is to distribute it to your own ezine list of subscribers. Again, if you have a small list of 50 subscribers or so, you can use your own mail program (Outlook, Eudora) to send it. If your base is larger, I recommend a listserve program like Aweber or Ezinedirector.com, which can send it out nicely formatted in an HTML template. These programs handle new subscribers and unsubscribes automatically. Lastly, when you’re ready to go beyond your own list, you can sign up for an article distribution service, which will send your article to thousands of subscribers for a monthly fee. I use SubmitYourArticle.com. If you want to research other services, do a web search for “article submission services.

This is precisely what I am doing here today (and every other day in my life)! I am writing to share my experience and hopefully, my knowledge and information can help some others who are in need of such information and advice. Writing is a very powerful way to connect with people and we can use it to not only share information but promote ourselves.

When you’re writing an article or some form of web content, you have to bear the following things in mind:-

a.The purpose of writing
What I do is this..before I start an article, I leave the title of the article empty and start typing out the purpose of the article. What kind of feeling do I want to leave with the reader? Then I move on to the keywords that I want to use consistently throughout the article (for search engine optimization purposes). Right after that, I write down (in point form) the content of the article.

Then and only then, I start beefing up the article.

The reason why the purpose, keywords and the skeleton of the article is written before anything else is to keep you focused and reminded of the reason why you’re writing the article. As any professional and experienced writer can tell you, it’s way too easy to get derailed half way. I have a bunch of articles that are completely wwwaaayyyyy off mark because I lost direction halfway through the article!!

b.Title and keywords of your article
The title should contain one of the keywords that you’re trying to use in your article. For instance, you want to optimize the article for business card, so, you should include the word ‘business card’ in your article title and also in the first paragraph of your article!

If you can’t think of anything mind-blowing..force it in! I am being really honest with you here if you want to make sure your article is ranked highly in search engines for

the keyword ‘business card’.

c.Don’t make them hit the back button
If you’re writing content for the Internet, yes, keywords are important because the search engines use keywords to rank their web pages. But you don’t have to compromise readers with search engines when you’re writing! No, not at all! You can write in an engaging way and yet use your preferred keywords in the article itself, you just have to practice a lot!

d.Don’t sell
Sales letters sell, not articles! You’ll be surprised at the number of people who actually think that selling through articles work..well, here’s news for you..THEY DON’T! Your articles are not supposed to do the selling for you, they are supposed to your ‘customer relations manager’ of sorts. Maybe they’re like ‘GROs’ too, if you want to put it that way. The moment the reader think that you’re trying to sell them something, they’ll hit the back button or click that ‘godforsaken’ x on the top right corner of the browser.
e.Too long, too short
Some people think that the longer your article is, the more fact it contains. Well, yes and no. If you want to write long articles, make sure the article is ACTUALLY packed with facts. If not, cut to the chase and just get to the point. Short articles have its benefits too. Write articles that are about 400 – 500 words.

But even industry experts cannot agree what the best length of articles on the web but generally speaking, if you are into search engine optimization, don’t write more than 800 and no less than 400.

  Writing Articles for Ranking

I have seen the question asked so many times. How do I get links without having
to resort to reciprocals? There are actually multiple ways but for the purpose
of this article I will be discussing just one, writing articles.

The first way that articles can be effective is by choosing the sites that
you submit to. If search Google you will find hundreds of sites that accept
submissions. They will range from specialized to general but take care when
choosing your core group. Many of the sites alluded to require a lengthy sign
up process or have been abandoned by their owners who have moved onto another
project. In order to make efficient use of your time, you should narrow your
field down to the 3 major article submission sites:

Article Depot – www.articledepot.co.uk

GoArticles – www.goarticles.com

Ezine Articles – www.ezinearticles.com

On their own each of these sites offers multiple SEO benefits.

Each allows
links to your site with Article Depot and GoArticles allowing Anchor Text in
the body of your article.

The next way that these article submission sites offer a way to gain links
and therefore better search engine results, is that due to their sheer size,
your article tends to get picked up by website owners looking to beef up their
sites. At times a single submission can generate more than 100 links! If you
chose to submit to hundreds of the smaller submission sites, you may get the
same amount of links but it would have taken a great deal more work.

If I could impart anything about the technique you should use when getting
the most out of your articles, it would be to use the major submission sites
to your advantage. Use the time saved by not chasing all the smaller sites to
write more articles and let the likes of Article Depot, GoArticles, and Ezine
Articles do the work for you.

Article writing has suddenly become very popular among online marketers lately. A lot of people are taking advantage of this fact to make extra money.

So just how can writing articles make YOU extra money?

Firstly the obvious answer is to write keyword dense articles on specific subjects and offer them for sale. These will be quickly snapped up by people trying to create niche market sites to sell a product within that niche. They will also be in demand with people setting up content sites to make money from Googles Adsense (you could also do this yourself as you write the articles).

Research the most popular keywords at http://www.wordtracker.com to find a niche which will give you a good idea of what to target your articles at.

Secondly, a series of articles about one niche can be placed in one volume and turned into an ebook, or course which can be sold with very little overheads. Using one or two of the articles to submit to article directories like http://www.ArticleCity.com or <a href=”http://www.DEBSArticleSite.com”

target=new>http://www.DEBSArticleSite.com and adding your bio with a link to your ebook salespage will quickly add some traffic and lead to sales.

You can also use articles to promote affiliate products. Search at http://www.clickbank.com and find a product you can market from its marketplace. Make your new link and use a service like TrackThtaAd ( http://www.trackthatad.com/?s=13753) to mask the link. Then write articles using keywords related to the product and submit those to article directories (see above).

There are a lot of ways to make money from writing articles, so get out there and start writing and submitting them today.

Writing articles is possibly the best way to generated free traffic to your site. A short article, submitted to a few places, creates permanent streams of traffic. Here are some of the ways articles bring traffic to your website:

1. Click-throughs from article banks. People read your articles at an article bank, and click on the link in the “authors resource box.”

2. Search engine traffic. Search “cheap international plane tickets” on Google, and sites with my article will be in the results. Wherever the article is found, readers can click through to my travel site.

3. Other web sites. When my reports show a referral address I dont recognize, its usually a web site thats using one of my articles.

Article Submission – The Basics

Submit your articles to article banks and newsletters. Article banks usually carry “free-distribution “articles, meaning anyone can use them for a site, newsletter or blog. They just cant change them, and they have to leave your link active. The link is in the “resource box,” where you say something about yourself and invite the reader to visit your web site.

Post an article once, and it can spread, creating permanent streams of traffic. Why permanent? Heres an example: I get search traffic for “mexico real estate” on my

site HousesUnderFiftyThousand.com because of an article I used. The author gets clicks through to her site, but I get traffic – and revenue – so Ill never remove that article.

The Easiest Article Writing

Article writing isnt just for writers. Online articles are short and less formal than magazine articles anyhow, but if you really dont like writing, try a “list-article.” This is the most popular type of article online, which is fortunate, because its also the easiest type to write.

For a site about making money on Ebay, you could write an article titled “The Top Ten Sellers On Ebay.” A short introduction, a list with a sentence or two about each item, a bit about yourself and a link to your site, and youre done. Write “Six Mistakes People Make On Ebay,” and we need to read that to avoid the mistakes, right?

Some article banks charge fees, but there are many that are free. There are also more ways to generate traffic with your articles. Thats this articles “tease” to get you to the site.

When starting out in the article writing business many feel one sided. Some say that writing for free will gain you great publicity while others prefer only to be paid for their articles. But if youre just starting out you may be confused as to which way is the best or perhaps doing both would benefit you.

Free Article Writing-
If you write free articles and submit them to free article directories you have a good
chance of them being picked up and published on several websites. If you include your
website address in the “About the Author” section this could bring you a good amount of
hits, but not always. You may start getting requests from newsletter and e-zines editors
that want to make sure they can use your article. This could lead to great exposure for
your work. Below is a list of places you can list your free article for others to use.
Webmasters, Editors, etc…using your work cannot change your article in any shape or form but by submitting to these websites, you allow others to publish your work on their website. You may be published on a website that you dont like, many havent had this be a problem but theres a chance.

Paid Article Writing-
For some this is a full time job and for others a little extra earned money on the side. Some look at those who have been paid for their work as officially published writers. It adds prestige to their writing. Some websites offer places where you can

submit your writing and they market it. Please keep in mind that when doing this, you most likely are giving up your copyrights to your work. Whomever publishes it gets to keep that. Sometimes you have to sign a contract agreeing that your work may be used in any or all forms of publicity. Be careful when writing for pay because you may end up doing hours of work for a crummy amount of pay. Getting paid for your article may be harder since you may decide to write for a certain magazine and must follow their guidelines. Not to mention if your article is close to one theyve recently published, the chances are they wont publish your work. Below are places for free and paid article writing submission websites.

Free Article Websites
Goarticles.com
Articlecity.com
Ideamarketers.com
Afreepress.com
Articlewarehouse.com
ezinearticles.com
Amazines.com
Isnare.com
Articlehub.com
Alumbo.com
Clickforcontent.com
Theallineed.com
Articlesfree.com

Paid Article Websites
Writeforcash.com
Writer-base.com
Elanceonline.com
Guru.com
Freelancewriting.com (under jobs section)

Website submission links may change after this article is published.I dont endorse in any shape or form the websites above. Good luck!

Well maybe it’s not that “little known” but some people do find it a little “scary” and “daunting” to have to write out a pile of articles and submit them. I will be honest, at first it scared to begoalie (yes I know that isn’t such word but it sounds scary hehe) out of me when I first heard you can gain free traffic just by writing free content.

And of course my thoughts swayed to “it’s going to take me forever, is it really worth it?” . Well I can assure you it’s definitely worth it! And the more you continue to do it, the easier it gets. Just like when you first begun riding a bike, you didn’t want to fall off and skin your knees and you start off a bit shaky but after a while it becomes second nature.

Now I notice there are some people who write just one article and that’s it! Writing just one article is not going to impact your traffic I can assure you of that. You need to write plenty of them!

You

see, it’s not even lunch time here and I’m already onto writing my 10th article for the day. Fifteen minutes per article is all it takes me, of course my first few I spent several hours on but like I said, it becomes second nature.

Creating an online business does take “hard work” the more you put into it the more you’ll get back from it but also the longer you do it the easier it becomes.

Giving out free content might sound crazy at first, but it’s a great stepping stone in establishing your credibility with potential customers who don’t know you from a bar of soap.
