You dont have to know much astrology to be able to use it. If you simply think about your sun-sign for a moment you will realize that you have very specific attitudes that relate to the meaning of that sign. In simple terms, this means that Gemini attitudes are very different from those of a Capricorn.

To determine a persons attitudes toward sex, you have to find out what signs the sexual planets, Mars and Venus, were passing through at the time they were born.

A sign is one of the twelve energy fields of the zodiac that reveals human attitudes. Each energy field, or sign, is very different from the other. You can learn all about the signs by going to this location.

If a mans Venus is found in the sign of Taurus, he is attracted to a woman who also has planets in Taurus. She has the kind of chemistry and attitudes that ignite him emotionally and sexually.

Likewise, if a woman was born when Mars was in Taurus she is attracted to the man who has planets in Taurus. He has the chemistry and attitudes that ignite her emotionally and sexually.

This is the kind of energy that is present when these two people come in contact with each other. The Venus and Mars connections between potential lovers determine their sexual chemistry. By learning

just a few tools you can read the sexual chemistry between you and another person.

You need to do two things to find this out.

Get a free astrology lesson which will provide you with the meaning of the signs and planets.

Get a free astrology printout of your birthchart from www.alabe.com. You will need to provide them with your date, time and place of birth. If you have studied your free astrology lesson, you will be able to look at the chart and locate the sign positions of your Venus and Mars. Obviously you would need to get the same information for your partner or potential mate.

Once you know how to locate the sign positions of your Venus and Mars, you will need to compare them with the Venus and Mars of your partner. To learn how to do this, check out The Art of Sexmatching

If you follow these instructions, you will begin to truly understand what the ancient astrologers meant when they said, “As above, so below.”

As a somewhat older gentleman (but still fairly good looking and somewhat romantic?) I have always enjoyed good relationships with the younger folk – Oh! The times I have been called upon over recent years to inspect and give an opinion on some poor new prospective boyfriend.

Of course, it is somewhat flattering to be consulted for such advice by pretty young females. However, my opinions and comment are based more upon my experienced knowledge of the devious thinking of younger males (I once was one) rather than any psychic ability.

I have always held a very open mind to most matters and my sideline interest in psychic and astrology subjects has been generated more as result of relationships with members of the fairer sex who dally in such areas.

More recently, with time on my hands due to health reasons I tended to read more on the subject and, in particular, that of the compatibility of people under their different zodiac signs. So, out of simple curiosity I conducted a simple experiment.

I prepared two lists on which I set down the names of numerous males and females that I had known over the years – friends, lovers, business etc. I then noted alongside each name my relationship with that person as Excellent-Excellent Romantic-Good or Average. After this, I noted down where possible, each persons birth date and Zodiac sign. I made many phone calls and researched many old dairies to complete this particular information.

An analysis of the lists threw up that, throughout my life, my most excellent relationships had been with Arians, Leos, Aquarians, Geminis, Taureans and Sagittarians. Of these, my most Romantic Excellent relationships had centred upon Leos, Geminis & Arians plus, one very special sensual Scorpio.

Zodiac

research indicated that the female Sagittarian offered the best compatibility choice for my sign of Aries; there were no Sagittarian female romances on my list of females.

There was however, one female at the beginning of my list. She dated way back to my lecherous youth and due to the haze of time I could not recall or remember her birthday.

As I sat one evening and reminisced back some 40 years to that time, I had to conclude, with a somewhat lecherous smile on my face, that this lady had to be the best and most exciting romantic relationship in my life to date. This was a young male older women relationship and a bit of a social no-no at that time. Might turn it into an Ebook one day entitled – Lady Sagittarians Lover or something similar.

My curiosity gained the better of me and I set to work to trace her and in time managed to locate her surviving son. From him I gained her birthday to discover she had indeed been a Sagittarian.

Can the stars be right? I dont really know. I can say however that in my case, without doubt, that lovely Sagittarian lady of so long ago was indeed the most exciting romantic activity of my life to date.

Who knows, there may yet still be another fantastic Sagittarian girl out there for this optimistic older Arian? Although one of a little lesser vitality than that exciting Sagittarian princess of so long ago.
About the Author

In ancient times, scientists, philosophers and magi divided matter into four basic elements: Air, Fire, Water and Earth. It has been said that these elements are the building blocks of life.

A scientist and philosopher named Empedocles set this foundation for science in Sicily during the 5th century B.C. Empedocles belonged to the tradition of “Root Cutters,” which means that he was an herbal magician and healer. He defined these elements, or “roots,” as not only physical substances, but also as “spiritual essences.” He even assigned gods and goddesses to these energies:
Air – Zeus
Fire – Hades
Water – Nestis (also known as Persephone)
Earth – Hera

About a century later, Aristotle assigned properties of hotness and coldness to the elements:
Air – hot/moist
Fire – hot/dry
Water – cool/moist
Earth – cool/dry

Mystics throughout the ages have recognized these elements as four spiritual modes of being. Air, Fire, Water and Earth are represented by the four suits of the Tarot – Swords (Air), Wands (Fire), Cups (Water) and Pentacles (Earth). I have seen that a dominant suit in a card spread can be very telling. You will also find these elements in astrology:
Air – Gemini, Libra, Aquarius
Fire – Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Water – Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces
Earth – Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Alchemy, Hermeticism and Gnosticism hold understandings of the four elements, too. We can see them in the Jungian theory of the four personality types – thinking (Air), intuiting (Fire), feeling (Water) and sensing (Earth). Even our modern Meyers-Briggs personality test shares this four-fold concept.

The idea is that nature and the Self are equal. The four seasons of a year can be compared to the four stages of human life – birth, growth, maturity and death. We can utilize the four elements as dimensions of psychic and spiritual growth. The natural way would be to strive to achieve an equal proportion of each. Understanding the psychic energies of these elements can help us balance our lives and experience greater harmony. If you know which elements to call upon and how to connect with them, you can manage whatever life throws your way much more easily.

AIR
Season – Spring
Time of Day – Dawn
Direction – East
Color – Yellow
Archangel – Raphael

Every time you think or communicate, you are drawing on the element of Air. Our connections with others are formed through Air. Air is the most elusive of all the elements. It is uncontainable, unseen, and changeable. Whenever you seek insight, discover a new idea, change your mind, clarify a vision, develop a plan or concentrate on your breathing, you are becoming Air. Air is intellect, Truth and wisdom. If you have difficulty making decisions, taking action, understanding or being understood, Air can help you.

To awaken your connection to the Air element, open your windows and clear the air around you by burning some incense or smudging your home with sage. Play music that inspires you. Or go outside and feel the wind on your face. Pay attention to the way it masters its own destiny, moving constantly. Its flexibility makes it unstoppable. Try to block it with your hand. It will only go around.

Singing or toning, whistling, even dancing are all Air activities. Crystal singing bowls and tuning forks are useful tools for invoking Air energy. Inventors utilize the element of Air. Read biographies of inventors to understand the inner workings of Air.

FIRE
Season – Summer
Time of Day – Noon
Direction – South
Color – Red
Archangel – Mikael

Have you ever really, really wanted something? Thats fire. Fire is desire. It is dynamic, passionate, bold, enthusiastic, active and hopeful. Fire is the life principle. It provides heat and light. It is the element of Spirit. Fire is charming, flamboyant and inspirational. Fire transforms. If you would like to improve your sense of humor or build courage, confidence, or motivation, look to Fire.

To open up to the power of Fire within you, you can light a candle and see what the living flame has to show you. Watch a sunset and take in the brilliance of this vital element. If you really want a mega-dose, try dancing around a campfire and watch the way the fire dances with you. Let the heat of the Fire element penetrate and warm your soul. Competitive sports and games are also good ways to stimulate the spark of Fire in your

life.

Do something spontaneous. Search within for your purpose. Set some life goals for yourself. Complete a task youve been meaning to finish. Learn to trust your intuition. Listen to a motivational tape or energize yourself with affirmations. Empower yourself with divine thoughts and let your ideals awaken.

WATER
Season – Autumn
Time of Day – Dusk/sunset
Direction – West
Color – Blue
Archangel – Gabriel

If you have ever loved, you have experienced the element of Water. Serenity is a result of Waters presence in our lives. Water is the most psychic of all the elements. It cleanses, nourishes and reflects. It is passive and malleable – it takes on the shape of whatever contains it. The Holy Grail is associated with Water, the original Primordial Chaos. Water rules the emotions and the subconscious. If you have prophetic dreams, you are using the element of Water. If you are lonely, depressed, overwhelmed or having trouble opening your heart, let Water clear the way for you.

To get water flowing in your life, the easiest, most accessible tool is the bathtub. Add essential oils or milk and honey to cleanse and nurture your Higher Self. Drink pure water to purify your body. You may try taking a walk in the rain. Notice how it gathers together to form puddles and pools. Throw a stone into a lake or a pond and watch the endless ripples. See how beautiful it is when it is contained.

Feeling compassion, shedding tears and giving to charity are the workings of this gentle element. Scrying bowls and table fountains are easy ways to get more Water into your life. Read poetry to get a feel for Waters subtle, soothing properties.

EARTH
Season – Winter
Time of Day – Midnight
Direction – North
Color – Green
Archangel – Uriel

When you eat, exercise or save money, you are interacting with the Earth element. Stability is Earths unique gift. Seeing, smelling, tasting and touching are functions of Earth. Earth is solid, rich, sultry, strong and dependable. It is the foundation for all the other elements. Earth is commitment, permanence, form. It is facts and law, practicality and consequence. Earth is about getting results. Poverty, insecurity, safety issues, obsessions and a sense of being “weak-willed”or incapable can all be resolved with earth.

If you would like to strengthen your connection to Earth, put your bare feet on the ground. Walk, run, jump. Let the immovable nature of the Earth element support you. You could also plant a garden or start a houseplant on a window sill. Roots such as potatoes, carrots, beets and turnips are known as “grounding” foods that can increase your personal Earth energy.

Learn to respect yourself, accept yourself. Define what dignity is to you. Stimulate your senses. Work with your hands. Knit, string beads, or do pottery. Place stones or a dish of sea salt on your altar, or wear a hematite pendant, to represent the Earth in your spiritual workings. Strive to be at home in your body.

INTEGRATE
Figure out which elements you are lacking and integrate them into your life. Let the elements of nature bring you into closer contact with your True Self. As you grow on each of these levels, you will experience greater and greater joy.

Dont let yourself get too much of one element. Too much air can make you spacey. Too much fire can cause burn-out. Too much water can make you “wishy-washy.” And too much earth can make you rigid. Keep your personal elements balanced and your life will reflect that balance back to you by giving you all that you need, on every level.

Yin Yang is the ancient, Chinese symbol for balance. It depicts the strong attraction and complementary nature of opposites. Just as magnate and metal attract, while oil and water repel, we too are subject to these laws of nature in our relationships. For example, we have all met people for whom we feel an immediate affinity or for some unknown reason, an instant dislike. We are attracted or repelled by others instinctively. This intuitive feeling goes beyond physical attraction. In reality, what we are responding to is the natural chemistry, or lack there of, between temperament styles. Understanding temperament styles will not only have a positive impact on the way you see yourself, but it will also enhance your relationship with others. If you are single, it will provide you insight into selecting a compatible partner. If you are a parent, it can dramatically improve the way you raise your children. If you are a salesperson, this information will significantly enhance your sales effectiveness by enabling you to build trust and rapport quickly.

Hippocrates, the father of medicine, is credited with originating the basic theory of four temperament styles. He concluded that our behavior style was determined genetically at birth rather than from external influences such as astrology or birth order. Hippocrates identified the physiology of each of the four temperament styles and concluded that we are born with a combination of four genetic influences: Choleric (Worker), Sanguine (Talker), Phlegmatic (Watcher) and Melancholy (Thinker). According to Hippocrates, the extroverted Choleric (Worker) was short-tempered and ill natured, but had a dynamic desire for action! The extroverted Sanguine (Talker) was cheerful, outgoing and optimistic, but not very serious or organized. The introverted Phlegmatic (Watcher) was slow and sluggish, but could stay calm, cool and collected under pressure. The introverted Melancholy (Thinker) was deep, sad and depressive, but also a thoughtful, gifted and analytical genius.

It is important to note that we are born into our temperament style and that it is unrelated to race, gender, or age. Our personality is comprised of traits from all four styles but our primary and secondary styles will have the most noticeable influence. By reviewing the traits of the four temperament styles listed below, you will be able to determine your primary and secondary style. For more information on this subject, read my article; What is Your Temperament

Style? http://www.johnboe.com/What%20is%20Your%20Temperament%20Style.pdf

The Choleric (Worker) is:

Extroverted – Determined – Demanding – Domineering – Controlling – Practical – Self-reliant – Decisive – Independent – Confident – Goal-oriented – Risk-taker -Aggressive – Insensitive – Impatient

The Sanguine (Talker) is:

Extroverted – Enthusiastic – Emotional -Sociable – Impulsive – Articulate – Optimistic – Persuasive – Self-absorbed – Generous – Egotistical – Charming – Unorganized – Playful – Personable

The Phlegmatic (Watcher) is:

Introverted – Accommodating – Harmonious – Agreeable – Indecisive – Uninvolved – Sympathetic – Undermining -Patient – Supportive – Stable – Possessive – Passive – Selfish – Bashful – Tolerant

The Melancholy (Thinker) is:

Introverted – Analytical – Thoughtful – Organized – Critical – Shy – Detailed – Pessimistic – Sensitive – Diplomatic – Economical – Loyal – Introspective – Private – Conscientious – Moody

Unfortunately, most people do not appreciate the value of temperament diversity in their relationships. Some people define a successful relationship as one where they have similar interests and much in common with their partner. Many make the fundamental mistake of believing that similarity is the key to compatibility.

The most common and natural attraction of opposites is between the introvert and extrovert. Like the attraction between Yin and Yang, introverts and extroverts recognize in one another the qualities and traits they require for balance. The two most naturally balanced relationships are between the Worker & Watcher styles or the Talker & Thinker styles. Due to their aggressive and controlling nature, the least compatible relationship is between two Workers. All relationship combinations can work if people understand the temperament dynamics and are willing to make adjustments as required. Whether it is a nation, a company, or a personal relationship, strength and balance are found in our complementary differences, not in our similarities.

If we dont behave according to a specific churchs doctrine, will our guardian angels turn their backs on us? If we are struggling with our overall belief in God or were questioning the validity of the holy books, will the angels abandon us? What if we believe in God and in the Bible, but we just feel like screwing off for awhile? Will they desert us? Do we have to be good and pure and perfect in order for angels to look after us?

I can only speak from my own experience. I was not raised in a church because my father is an atheist and my stepmother just didnt care either way. I have always had a few paranormal gifts that would come and go without warning. In my studies and research to figure out the scientific understanding of the paranormal, I found my own connection with the spirit world. I did not go out searching for guardian angels. They found me. They helped me with my studies and as a very skeptical person theyve had to work very hard to prove to me that they were real and that they had my best interests in mind.

They have never left me. I have come to find signs over the years that long before they ever made their presence known to me, they were there looking over me. I had a rather wild and rebellious time during my late teens and early twenties. I absolutely did not believe in any kind of a god and I did not believe that the Bible was anything more than a bunch of greedy power-hungry mens rules for keeping the rest of humanity under wraps. Nevertheless, for all my negative beliefs, the angels watched over me. There are too many really stupid dangerous things that I did that should have killed me, too many times there is no other answer other than someone was looking over me and saving me from my own youthful choices. It wasnt until long after Id calmed down and was behaving myself that they made themselves known.

I have spent a lifetime questioning the various religions, their churches, their leaders, their rules, and their lifestyles. I have never come to a rock solid conclusion that any of them are completely right or completely wrong. I may never know without a doubt that any one holy book is the one and only holy book. I personally have found a peace in knowing that all religions root in love. Love one another. Love yourself. Love your journey no matter where you are. My religious beliefs are a bit eclectic and I sort of like it that way. It works for me. I have no need to recruit anyone over to my beliefs because I cant even prove that what I believe is how it really is. My guardian angels have never ever left me because I question these things. They have never tried to convert me to any one religion. I get the sense that they know me well enough to know that its the nature of me to question and explore.

Some say God created us in His own image. Then God must be an intelligent independent explorer. Some say we create God in our own image. Then God must be an intelligent independent explorer. Either way, wouldnt it make sense that if each of

us is a unique and different person that each of us is going to have a unique and different version of what defines God? My angels never get angry or threaten to abandon me when I ask these kinds of questions. Instead, they beam out love and light and smile lovingly like proud grandparents watching their favorite grandchild explore the wonders of the earth. I only feel loved and blessed. Never have I sensed that they would ever leave me. They have promised that they wont.

I have had some very dark times since finding out that they are with me. Ive gotten really angry at them. Ive screamed at the heavens shaking my fist and cussing. They agreed to leave me alone for awhile but assured me that when I was ready, theyd be back. I was still protected but we didnt have the close chats about life that Id come to love. Once, I wanted to do incredible harm to someone who had hurt me and my children. I was in the darkest ugliest most un-Christ-like place a person can be. Even through my angels refused to help me carry out my dark plots against this person, they never left me. When I was sorry for being so dark and was ready to heal and be happy again, they were right there to help me. Angels wont help you do bad deeds no matter how righteous you may feel, but theyll help you when youre ready to shift away from those dark desires.

From my own personal relationship with my own angels, I have to say no. No they wont leave you. They will always love you and will do everything they can to keep you on a good path, but if you want to screw up your life, they will stick by you but you wont get that loving beam of warmth. No matter who you are or what youve done, your angel is still there waiting to connect with you. If you dont want to connect they wont force you. If youre life is going fairly well, they may not even need to tell you that theyre there. They arent pushy. Others are more needy of that spiritual connection and need to feel the comforting and loving energy from them. Perhaps the reason mine have been so vocal is because I am such a brat at times? Some of us need to hear it loud and clear in order to believe it. Blind faith is a bizarre and twisted lesson, but Im working on it.

How many of us have had that question hammered into ourconsciousness? I would bet that most musicians, artists, actors, writers, missionaries, athletes, entrepreneurs, stay-at-homeparents, and inventors have all had to deal with this question. After we are successful and the big money and fame is rollingin, then everyone says how brave and tenacious we were. After wechange the world with our art, our incredibly successfulchildren, our spiritual teachings, our new ideas and businessconcepts, then people say we are “lucky” to be one of the chosenfew as if we didnt really work all that hard to get to thatsuccessful place. Until that day when we are fabulously wealthyand our industry grants us superstar status, we are deemeddreamers, unrealistic, illogical, and without real direction aswe diligently toil away at our work until its worthy ofacceptance as a “real job.” They see us as an overnight successor as complete failures. Until we are winners, our work isdeemed as a hobby, a luxury, or as simply frivolous.

Look into the history of our famous artists, Olympic athletes, inspirational novelists, and others of this nature. Unless theyare born into extreme wealth, they typically have a benefactorwho puts a roof over their head, feeds them, and subsidizestheir efforts until they can get to a place where their work isable to pay for itself. Many famous painters, sculptors, classical music composers, and such were never acknowledgedduring their own lifetimes for the work that they did. They wereindependently wealthy or someone paid their way. Sometimesbenefactors do it because they have a simple love of the arts, alove of athletic games, a love of good books, and such. Othertimes they do it from an investment perspective. Should theperson develop their craft to a point that it is profitable, then they are promised a percentage of the proceeds. In eithercase, a benefactor typically will support the artists, missionaries, and athletes that show the most promise.

The benefactor and the artists have one thing in common, theyboth see the world as a better place for the gifts and talentsthat are shared. A woman who works two jobs and raises the kidsso that her husband can focus all of his attention on hisentrepreneurial efforts is doing so because she truly believesin him, in his business, and that some day it will all pay offfinancially. Even if he fails, she believes in the dream andwill most likely cheer him on to try again. Parents will pay afortune to get the coaching and training their child needs, ifthey show the potential and passion of a future gold medallist. Why? Because they believe in the dream.

Do not forget the gifts of those who would give their gifts tothe world even if it means that they will live in poverty fordoing so. The couple that chooses to live off one income so thattheir children can have one stay-at-home parent is making thatdecision with their eyes wide open. The folks who travel intoAfrica to give aid to the starving and the dying do not seetheir lack of monetary gain as important enough to quit. Theentrepreneur lives on a shoestring budget so that he can createa business knowing that the world is a better place for thegoods and services that his company will provide. There is aspiritual lesson and a truly heartfelt joy that comes fromknowing that giving our gift is so much more important thandriving a large SUV while wearing the latest fashions. Yes, wewould have liked it if a wealthy benefactor had shown up in ourlives, but their absence will not stop us from moving forwardwith our dreams.

But what does it matter if we have artists, actors, athletes, and such in the

world? Isnt it all technically just a pleasantluxury of life? Do we really need sporting events, rockconcerts, art on our walls, Broadway plays, and books that arenot factual scientific textbooks? Yes! Yes, we do NEED them. These things keep us sane. Imagine for a moment what the worldwould be like without any music. Imagine the world without anymovies, plays, and fairy tales. Imagine the world withoutmystery novels, romance novels, self-help books, autobiographies, or childrens storybooks. Imagine the worldvoid of art, beauty, fashion, rose gardens, water fountains, birdbaths, and wind chimes. Imagine the world withoutentrepreneurs, where everyone works for large well-establishedorganizations and you can never break free of that rule. Imaginea world without priests, ministers, rabbis, monks, nuns, andother spiritual healers because they cannot PROVE that theirwork is actually a necessity Imagine a world without comedians, clowns, and toy makers. In a world where everyone went out andgot a real job, these things would be no more. Imagine a worldwhere the only work that was acceptable was work that waspractical, logical, and earned a stable income.

We would drift into such a darkness of the soul. We would sinkinto a horrible depression without these beautiful gifts of theheart. Throughout the history of mankind, we have entertainedourselves with the arts, athletics, spiritual and philosophicaldebates, and with forms of laughter. It is through thesecreative arts, intellectual arts, fine arts, and physical artsthat we maintain the sanity of the human race. Laughter is thebest medicine. Happiness and a joyful heart are the purest ofspiritual gifts that the universe has to offer.

We are not born to become super logical serious analyticalworker bees. We are here to manifest the spirit of love andinner-connectivity throughout the world. We are here to designand play at building cultures and belief systems. We are nothere to be some greedy corporations salesmen, paper pushers, and clones of those in the next cubicle over. We are here to bethe expression of the human spirit in its greatest form. We dothat through the arts. Not everyone is called to be an artist, amusician, an athlete, a minister, an actor, a stay-at-homeparent, or an entrepreneur. However, everyone does benefit fromthe fact that they are here leading us to the belief that thereis something inspirational out there. There is something more tolife than just work. There is also love, beauty, mental health, spiritual health, and laughter.

I cannot write music, make films, run a 4-minute mile, or iceskate like a ballerina, but I am healed, inspired, motivated, and touched by the passion of those who can. What a dark andcold place this would be without those passionate ones whorefuse to get a real job? The world really is a better placebecause these passionate artists, motivational athletes, andinspirational ministers chose to break free of the mainstreamnormal lives that others would have expected of them. Somewherein the hearts and souls of these people, they had to find theanswer to that question…. “Why dont I get a real job? Becausethe world needs my gift as much as I need to give it.”

The inner critic is that voice inside your head that tells you that you arent good enough, smart enough, talented enough, pretty enough, or strong enough. It nags and natters at you to the point that your self confidence and sense of bravery is destroyed. You are convinced that the voice is correct and that you really dont have what it takes to live out your wildest dreams. As time goes on, you quit setting meaningful goals. You become resigned to a life of mediocrity and dullness.

The inner critic typically begins during childhood. Unfortunately most of us have had parents, siblings, teachers, friends, and enemies tell us that we arent good enough. They laughed in your face when you told them your childhood dreams. Its not always said directly to our face. Sometimes its a subtle undercurrent. Maybe you lived in the shadow of a perfect older brother and your folks forgot to cheer on your successes too. Maybe your folks did everything for you as if you werent capable of doing anything for yourself. Maybe you lived under the rule of a perfectionist, so everything you did was critiqued with a cold critical eye and never quite cut the mustard.

However it starts, the inner critic gathers proof that it is doing the right thing by protecting you from making foolish leaps of faith. It will find proof of your lack and inability to shine. Every time you give up and quit, the inner critic files that away in its memory as proof yet again of your smallness. Years and years of layers of proof and validation coupled with the lack of a strong support system of cheerleaders strengthens the inner critic until it overpowers your own sense of drive and purpose. Your fears now rule your life.

Critics are not necessarily bad. They analyze and report back the results of their critique. The inner critic believes that he is protecting you. Its his job to keep you from doing harmful or foolish things. In the caveman days, he would have told you that you couldnt outrun the lion so youd best leave it alone. He would have told you not to try jumping off of that cliff because you dont have wings like a bird so youre not going to be able to fly. The inner critic is supposed to analyze your talents, traits, and abilities and then determine whether or not youve got what it takes to accomplish whatever whim youre entertaining. At an enlightened balanced level he keeps you safe and out of trouble. In overdrive, he immobilizes you and keeps you from doing much of anything interesting and adventurous.

Look at the most common phobia in America – public speaking. Now seriously, this is feared more than dying! How can that be? What is it were afraid of? People will laugh at us? People will think were stupid? People will be so bored that theyll fall asleep and snore through the speech? Well forget what we were going to say and just stand there with a blank look on our face? To stand up and speak ones mind is the ultimate test of self confidence. Do you really truly believe in yourself, your knowledge of the subject matter, your ability to form words and sentences that make sense to the audience? <br

/>

I can relate completely to this fear, but what I have to do is look realistically at myself from a third party objective viewpoint. I hear my own inner critic worrying that Im going to make a fool of myself on stage because Ill forget what Im going to say. The truth is, I have a gift of gab. Im a talkaholic. I have no historical evidence of forgetting what I was going to say. Quite the contrary, I typically add so much more than I had originally planned on saying. If Im honest in my evaluation of myself then Id realize that I have so much information, opinions, and stories that even if I do forget what I was going to say, I could wing it. Everything I do comes back to trying to teach people how to be happy. Ill find my way back to that goal even if I ever did forget. So, in a logical analysis, I would have to say that its an invalid fear. Theres no reason at all to listen to my own inner critic when its nagging at me not to get up on stage to speak. For me, there is no real danger involved. It would be a shame if I let an invalid fear stop me from doing what I love most, reaching out and helping people to make positive changes in themselves.

You may decide that your inner critic is telling the truth, you really arent capable of doing what youve set out to do. You want to own a restaurant but youre afraid of failing. Upon evaluation you come to realize that you dont know anything about running a business or even cooking for that matter. Okay great, so get lessons. Educate yourself, make solving the fears your first steps. Just because you dont have all of the tools today doesnt mean that youre never ever going to be able to succeed.

Your inner critic makes an evaluation about you based on mental programs and beliefs that has been fed into it over the course of your life. If you have a history of support and success, then your inner critic is probably balanced and logical. If you have a history of being ridiculed and of failure, then your inner critic is probably doing its best to save you from any further pain. You are so much more than your inner critics opinion of you. You are forever capable of growing, learning, training, expanding, and contributing your unique beautiful self. Dont let your inner critic keep you from giving your gift to the world.

Astrology has evolved over the many centuries of its existence from a fatalistic, even superstitious ritual meant for “kings” and “rulers” to a viable “art form” incorporating changes through the centuries in the development of our understanding about human nature.

Let’s take a brief but loving journey through the history of astrology and look at some of the key players in the development of the field. After all, you have to know your players!

Astrology as we know it came into being in ancient Chaldea/Bablyon (roughly modern Iraq) around 1645 BC with the first “horoscope” dating around 410 BC. “Astrology as we know it” means the procedure of consulting the stars to pick favorable times for doing things, answering questions, forecasting mundane events and analyzing individual destiny by a horoscope. Interestingly, the Rising Sign was first used for predictions, though sometimes the Sun, Moon or Part of Fortune was used as well.

Ptolemy
Astrological progress was also made in Egypt, Greece and Rome. Ptolemy (85-165 CE) in Greece was perhaps our first famous unique astrologer and of course he is known for many other things as well.

Copernicus and Galileo
Skipping ahead through the Dark Ages in Europe, there were two famous men who emerged during the Renaissance who practiced astrology, Copernicus (1473-1543) and Galileo (1564-1642). Both these men are famous in the scientific field, but at one time there was a comfortable and natural association between astronomy and astrology, the exoteric and the esoteric of the stars, if you will. In 1524 the credibility of astrology was severely and permanently affected when predictions about the “great conjunction” that year failed to come true.

Oddly, the resurgence of interest in astrology today can be dated to the birth of England’s Princess Margaret in 1930. That year the “London Sunday Express” ran an astrological profile of the princess that was so popular, it peaked a general interest in astrology and from this developed your newspaper’s “daily horoscope”, not that daily horoscopes have much to recommend them.

This is a beautiful little bit of circular history (the more things change, the more they stay the same) because originally astrology was used only for royals. Others like serfs, slaves and peasants did not have much to their “fate” other than a life that was “nasty, brutish and short”. But the fate of a nation hung on the destiny of its ruler and his or her horoscope was a critical interest to all.

Evangeline Adams
The first astrologer of modern interest is the very interesting indeed Evangeline Adams (1868?-1933). Adams, who lied about her birth date, was considered the “Mother of Modern Astrology”. She was a colorful figure who practiced in New York City during the first half of the 20th century. Adams became famous because she predicted a hotel would catch fire. When she was put on trial, she insisted that astrology itself be put on trial. Astrology won! Adams asked for the horoscope of the judge’s son and told him things about his own son that convinced him of the veracity of this field. Adams’ life is fascinating and there are many biographies, anecdotes and discussions about her in magazines like “The Mountain Astrologer” and online. Among her clients are reputed to have been John Pierpont Morgan and Enrico Caruso.

Dane Rudhyar
Dane Rudhyar (1895-1985), considered by some to be the greatest astrologer who ever lived, was a tremendous force in the development of humanistic and spiritual astrology in the 60s and 70s, beginning the interface of astrology with psychology that so enriched our field. Rudhyar’s essays and discussions are well worth reading today. Of particular interest in my opinion are his writings about the relationship between the Sun and the Moon. Rudhyar’s book: “Lunation Cycle: Key to the Understanding of Personality” is a classic addition to any astrologer’s library.

Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson
An unforgettable force in the field of astrology of a very different nature was Ivy Goldstein-Jacobson (1893-1990). With her professional precision and purity, Goldstein-Jacobson restored the tools and techniques of modern astrology. Perhaps her most famous book is “Simplified Horary Astrology”.

Reinhold Ebertin
Reinhold Ebertin (1901-1988), his mother Elsbeth and his son Baldur, have been a major force in both German and international astrology since the beginning of the century. Ebertin’s work with midpoints has been influential in developing an understanding of transits and prediction. His book to read is “Combination of Stellar Influences”.

Isabel Hickey
Isabel Hickey (1903-1980) made a lasting impression on our field during the first half of the 20th century as well. Ms. Hickey’s most popular book is called “Astrology: A Cosmic Science”. It was one of the first astrology textbooks to teach a spiritual rather than fatalistic approach to

chart interpretation.

The Gauquelins
Influential in other ways were two French psychologists Michel (1928-1991) and Francoise Gauquelin. The Gauquelins set out in the 50s to prove whether or not astrology was accurate. Although their results were not amazing, they did establish some correlations in favor of astrological predictability and perhaps more importantly, produced great amounts of statistical data which are still used by astrologers today to develop their theories of prediction.

Linda Goodman
Linda Goodman Although often downplayed within the professional astrological community Linda Goodman (1925-1995) was a tremendous popular force in the revival of interest in astrology in the second half of the 20th century. Unsteady in her writing, Goodman’s first books, “Sun Signs” and “Love Signs” were stupendous. Later books wandered far afield. Like many professional astrologers, my first exposure to the field was with these two books. I kept “Love Signs” by my bedside for many years, looking for the perfect Capricorn lover

Sydney Omarr
Sydney Omarr (1926-2003) is mentioned because he is perhaps the best known of his genre, astrologer to the stars! Omarr was an outstanding nationally syndicated columnist during much of the 20th century. He wrote “My World of Astrology”. His annual Sun Sign prediction books are popular sellers every year among his faithful followers.

Lois Rodden
Lois Rodden (1928-2003) made a major contribution when she developed a system of rating sources for birth data which revolutionized our field. Believe it or not, prior to this astrologers never cited the source of their birth information! Rodden began a practice of citing sources such as birth certificate, family Bible, hearsay, biography or autobiography, for example, giving a rating to each source as to its accuracy. Because of Rodden, many astrologers now routinely cite the source of their birth date when writing about famous people or historical figures and undoubtedly our field has more credibility because of this.

Two major astrologers working in the 21st century are Rob Hand and Liz Greene. Both are available at www.astro.com.

Rob Hand
Rob Hand is an astrologer in Reston, Virginia specializing in a philosophical and classic approach to astrology. Hand has written a number of encyclopedic texts which are a must for your reference library, such as Planets in Transit, Planets in Youth (one of my favorites), Planets in Composite and others. Hand is spearheading a project to translate ancient astrological texts from Latin, Green, Sanskrit and other languages in order to present information about astrology by translators who are sympathetic to its nature. Visit www.projecthindsight.com for more information.

Rob Hand was one of two prominent astrologers (Michael Lutin is another) who predicted 911. I believe that Hand’s ability to do this particular thing is based on the 9th house influence in his astrology chart, his knowledge of history and his development as a philosophical thinker There is nothing like knowing history (one’s own, another’s or the collective) to enhance one’s abilities to see patterns and make connections for the future.

Liz Greene
Liz Greene is a British Jungian analyst/astrologer currently based in Switzerland. Greene brings in-depth Jungian psychological insights to the field of astrology, is a superb and prolific writer and has produced unsurpassed volumes on the nature of the outer planets Saturn, Neptune and Pluto as well as many other books of interest in interpretating astrology. Anything Liz Greene writes is well worth reading.

Martin Schulman
Martin Schulman, a contemporary astrologer about whom I have found little biographical information, introduced the concept of karma into astrological interpretation with a series of books on the Moon’s Nodes including “Karmic Astrology: The Moon’s Nodes and Reincarnation” and “Ascendant: Your Karmic Doorway”. Schulman is in a class of his own.

Astrologers are an independent, eclectic, futuristic and dynamic group of people. We welcome all who are interested into our field. Most astrologers are self taught (it is our nature) but you will find small classes available wherever you live if you look carefully! In addition the Kepler College of Arts and Sciences was founded in 2000 in Lynwood, Washington. Kepler College is the only college in the western hemisphere authorized to issue BA degrees in Astrological Studies. The entire curriculum is based on astrology. If this is an approach you would like to take, try www.kepler.edu.
